Classes

Come & learn this beautiful & popular art form that has been danced by women for centuries. Express yourself, become one with your body & improve your posture & poise.

The aim of classes is to provide a supportive atmosphere and enhance well-being through dance.

Beginner Class

Wednesday 7.30 – 9.00pm Pontyclun Athletic Club

Beginner classes are designed for persons of all ages who do not have any previous dance experience. No special level of fitness is required. The aim will be to develop creativity and the capacity to improve, by providing a grounding in bellydance technique and achieving familiarity with Arabic music and rhythm. Classes will begin with a warm-up and stretch and end in a cool-down in order to minimise the risk of injury. Choreographs will be taught using the techniques and dance moves learnt in class. Any loose, comfortable clothing is appropriate. Students may wish to wear flat shoes with a slippery sole, although I personally prefer to dance barefoot. Coin belts and chiffon veils may be desirable at a later stage. Handouts of choreography and general information on bellydance will be available at each class.

General Level Class

Monday 7.15 – 8.45pm Beddau Community Centre

General level classes are suitable for students who have some dance experience as well as those who have already grasped the basic techniques and possess some understanding of the different styles of dance and Arabic rhythms. Clothing is at the students discretion – if you like to look-the-part, feel free to dress up!! Choreographs will be taught, along with more advanced bellydance moves and layering techniques. Handouts of choreography and general information on bellydance will be available at each class.
